This week we would like you all to meet our Software Engineer: Justin Lang
I do a little bit of everything on the day to day. Primarily I focus on maintaining and improving the factory software that helps calibrate, assemble, and test our glasses, and polishing and improving the Unreal Engine plugin.
I received a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Chicago. I worked primarily in tech education, game developer for an online tech education company, and as an online tutor/curriculum designer/customer support for an additional online education company. I then moved on to work as a manager and game designer/developer at a local escape room before deciding to merge my love of games and computer science. I wanted to work for a company creating something that could elevate the idea of gaming as a whole.
There’s never a dull moment at Tilt Five. I always have projects to work on, which is exciting and keeps me pushing forward. One of the other amazing components is how excited everyone else is by the same things that fascinate me. If I make a cool discovery, an interesting feature, or have an idea for a fun game project, everyone else is always fully supportive of driving the ideas forward to see what they amount to!
I grew up in Colorado, then went to school in Chicago, before moving to California for work. Before I worked at Tilt Five I spent much of my time teaching students Computer Science in a variety of different formats, as well as designing and building escape rooms in the Bay area.
I’ve always been a gamer at heart, and that’s driven me to be where I am. I’m quite competitive when it comes to playing games, but I also enjoy creating experiences that bring other people joy, and getting to see the joy those experiences bring to people in the moment.
1. Final Fantasy XIV
2. Bioshock
3. Gloomhaven
I mostly enjoy video and board games! I either play in or run roughly five D&D campaigns a week! Additionally, I play a lot of different MMORPGs in my free time; Runescape, WoW, Final Fantasy XIV, etc. I also routinely host board game nights at my house, right now it’s been a big focus on 7 Wonders and CATAN!
